The Punch & Judy show of the late Professor Guy Higgins on DVD

Produced by the Punch & Judy Fellowship, with the kind permission of Guy’s widow Maggie. This DVD records Guy’s very last performance on Weymouth beach, a pitch he had for some 29 years.

Guy’s swazzling was of a standard that many aspire to and from his many years on the beach, he became an inspiration to many of today’s performers.

Glyn Edwards has been a Punch ‘Professor’ for over fifty years and has taken his Punch & Judy show around the world. Two performances of Glyn’s typical show are included, giving a flavour of a traditional British Punch & Judy show.

Also included on this DVD is footage from Glyn’s archives with film from 1987 of Mr Punch’s big 325th birthday party in the piazza of Covent Garden in London.

Recently re-discovered on a fragile reel to reel tape recording. This long forgotten interview has not been heard for decades. Frank Edmonds shares his memories and talks of a lifetime performing Punch & Judy shows. Peter Fraser's book features a series of exemplary drawings of all the traditional characters of the Punch and Judy Show. Detailed instructions of various methods of their construction include: modelling and casting, carving head, painting, hands, costume patterns.

Designing a booth is different to building a booth. Design is the thought process before action. It's the process of making choices.

This booklet identifies those things that you'll only realise you should have thought after you've built the booth, only before it. It will mean that the booth subsequently built will have less niggling things wrong with it, and should save the reader money!
