Think of an image of Mr Punch and the celebrated Cruikshank depiction immediately
comes to mind. The script, noted down by John Payne Collier, however has come in
for much criticism. Is the criticism really justified? What of Piccini, the puppet
showman, what's his story? Is there anything more to learn by comparing the artist's
sketches with the finished woodcuts?
This little book, considers a myriad of issues and throws in a comic narrative to
boot. If you are a fan of Mr Punch you'll enjoy this little treatise.
